A broad whale-inspired canopy appears to hover at the top, while narrower curves and ascending marine forms draw the eye upward from the base. The changing widths keep the composition balanced without making its considerable height appear visually heavy.<\/p>\n<p>Mirror-polished surfaces dissolve parts of the structure into reflections of the sky, water, and surrounding buildings. The outdoor sculpture changes again after sunset, when internal illumination reveals the patterned upper form and colored light travels through the central composition. The exterior is fabricated from 2.0 mm 304 stainless steel panels that are patterned, cut, hand-formed, and welded to a galvanized square-tube framework.<\/li>\n<li>Surface preparation progresses from 80- to 2000-grit abrasives, followed by sisal, wool, and cloth-wheel polishing to produce the mirror finish. The lighting system uses 24V low-voltage LEDs with concealed power and control components. Pump capacity, drainage volume, and operating head are calculated for the water system, which uses 304 stainless steel submersible pumps.
