Sculptural Planter: When Leaf Structure Becomes Function

Sculptural planter design becomes both vessel and ornament in this series of openwork bronze forms, where enlarged leaf veins wrap around a tapered body. Irregular cutouts allow light to pass through the surface, reducing visual weight and casting shifting shadows across the planting. A blue-green patina gives each bronze planter the varied character of naturally weathered metal rather than a flat decorative color.

Each sculptural planter balances three usually separate elements: structural enclosure, botanical pattern, and usable planting space. The broad rim creates a clear upper edge, while branching ribs lead the eye downward and maintain continuity around the form. Lost-wax casting preserves the organic transitions, and controlled heat patination develops tonal depth. Repeated as a group, every bronze planter contributes to a measured rhythm without becoming visually identical.

	Detalhes do processo The process begins with a full-scale 1:1 model, produced either by 3D printing in ABS or hand-sculpting in clay. The form is then cast in bronze using the lost-wax method, with an approximate wall thickness of 5 mm. After casting, the surface is refined with 80- to 120-grit abrasives in preparation for patination. Controlled heat and selected chemical solutions develop the blue-green tones, followed by a protective sealer that stabilizes the finish. This sequence preserves the openwork leaf details while giving the planter structural strength, tonal variation, and a durable hand-finished surface.
