This public art sculpture uses a large water-drop outline to frame smaller suspended droplets and a flowing central form. The outdoor sculpture is made of mirror-polished stainless steel, combining a smooth outer contour with open negative space. Its tapered top and rounded base create a stable vertical silhouette, while the interior elements add depth and visual movement without making the composition feel heavy.

Reflections of the sky, landscape, and viewers move across the curved surface, allowing the public art sculpture to change continuously with light and viewing position. The open center keeps the surrounding environment visible through the artwork, making space itself part of the composition. From the front, the outdoor sculpture appears balanced and fluid; from the side, its narrow profile and shifting reflections reveal a stronger sense of depth.

  • A 1:1 scale model is first produced from ABS material using 3D printing technology. For the sculpture’s surface, 2.0mm-thick 304 stainless steel sheets are marked and cut based on the model; the metal is then shaped through manual forging—involving approximately 3,000 hammer strikes per square meter—followed by seamless welding of the sections. Flat steel components are precision-cut via laser based on Rhino software designs and assembled. The subsequent mirror-polishing process begins with grinding down weld seams and forging marks using 80-grit sandpaper, followed by progressive smoothing with sandpaper grits of 120, 320, 600, 800, 1200, and 2000. A sisal wheel with purple polishing compound is used to remove initial grinding marks, followed by a wool wheel to eliminate marks left by the sisal wheel. Finally, a cloth wheel with green and white polishing compounds is used for the finishing polish to achieve a mirror-like surface. Internally, a galvanized square-tube framework is installed to match the sculpture’s dimensions, enhancing wind and seismic resistance, with anti-rust treatment applied to all weld joints.
